Skating on ice

Being half term, ice skating at Plymouth Pavillions proved to be a popular evening, not only by YFC, but members of the public. With a full rink, I was impressed by how few crashes there were, although Luke Uglow certainly made good friends with the ice! By the end of the session, many people had gained in confidence, including Bryony, Natasha and Lil.

YFC FOLLOWERS: Please remember that Sunday 6th March is our annual dung run. Please order dung in advance (see the advert in the paper for contact details)

Talk by a funeral director

At first, tonight's talk seemed a little morbid, but it didn't deter a large crowd of members from coming along. Mr Peter Rowe (from Maddaford Funeral Services) discussed his specialist subject sensitively and in great depth. True to his word, he answered a range of questions from members as honestly and openly as he could, whilst remaining profession.

I for one would not like to do his job, but Peter certainly takes it all in his stride, having been in the navy prior. Many thanks go to Peter for doing such a wonderful job at informing us on such a delicate topic.

Visit to the Cornish Crisp Company

Having only started up business two years ago, the Cornish Crisp Company in Callington welcomed members with bags of crisps! Following a talk, plus question and answers session, we were shown around the factory and told the processes involved to change potatoes to crisps. It was great to discover that they use as much local produce as possible, plus support a range of charities, inlcuding Shelterbox.

Valentine's Ball at The Atlantic Hotel, Newquay

'Wear a hat or bring a pig' appeared to be a rather alternative theme for our Valentine's Ball this year, yet members from all over Cornwall proudly stuck to it. It was a relief to our county chairman, Anthony Ellis, that no livestock made it to the hotel that night, although this could have been somewhat interesting! Following a three course meal, the night was danced away into the early hours of Sunday morning and it was no surprise that many members were glad they had booked a room at the hotel!

Inter-club challenge

Members from Camelford, Stratton and St Mabyn joined us at Trethorne for our annual inter-club challenge. Following a range of activities, including bowling, pool, darts and jenga the scores were very tight. The night ended with arm wrestling and also a boat race, with Camelford victorious. Watching a Camelford member drench herself in a pint of water, all for the sake of winning, certainly made for an amusing night! Well done to all who participated and many thanks for your support.
